AIRLINE RATINGS NAMES AIR NEW ZEALAND TOP CARRIER

The world’s best airlines for 2020 have been named by AirlineRatings.com, the world’s only safety and product rating website, and the airline of the year is Air New Zealand.

The kiwi airline just nudged out Singapore Airlines, last year’s winner, ANA, Qantas and Cathay Pacific.

Air New Zealand is being honoured for the sixth time for its record-breaking performance, multi-award-winning in-flight innovations, operational safety, environmental leadership and motivation of its staff. These factors have stamped the airline as a clear industry leader.

Who needs a World Cup anyway?

Their countrymen may not have made it to the World Cup final, but in a consolation prize of sorts, Air New Zealand has been named 2020 Airline of the Year by AirlineRatings.com.

While this is the sixth time the airline has flown in at number one in AirlineRatings.com’s Airline Excellence Awards, given the publicity carriers like Qantas, Qatar and Singapore Airlines have generated this year, it is somewhat of a surprise to see the kiwis return to winning ways.

So, on what basis is the title awarded? AirlineRatings.com’s panel of seven judges, who have more than 200 years’ of aviation experience between them, assess airlines on 12 key criteria, including customer reviews, product offerings, safety, fleet age, profitability and environmental leadership.

Singapore Airlines has been knocked off the top spot

The world’s best airlines for 2020 have been named, with Air New Zealand taking the top spot.

It beat previous winner Singapore Airlines in AirlineRatings.com’s Airline Excellence Awards, with All Nippon Airways, Qantas and Cathay Pacific rounding out the top five. Judged by seven editors from AirlineRatings.com, the awards are based on 12 key criteria including fleet age, passenger reviews, profitability, investment rating, product offerings, and staff relations.

This is the sixth time Air New Zealand has won this award, reclaiming it from Singapore Airlines who won in 2018.

The much-awaited annual Airline Excellence Awards are carried out by AirlineRatings.com, which is an aviation safety- and product-rating site based out of Perth, Australia.

To decide who wins, seven editors at the agency consider a dozen key factors including operational safety, passenger reviews, profitability, investment rating, fleet age, and product offerings such as premium economy on long-haul flights and seating options in other classes.

Air New Zealand’s number-one score should come as no surprise since, aside from last year’s loss to Singapore Airlines, the carrier has claimed the top spot for six of the past seven years.

SIA slips to No. 2 in best airline list, wins top spot for its premium suites

Singapore Airlines (SIA) could not retain its crown as the best airline in 2020, slipping a spot to No. 2 behind Air New Zealand, according to airline safety and product rating review website AirlineRatings.

Even so, SIA snagged the Best First Class Airline accolade.

This is the sixth time Air New Zealand has been given the top award, with airlines assessed based on a range of factors including safety, environmental leadership and motivation of its staff.
