A man who killed a stray cat in the Tampines estate was sentenced to 18 weeks’ jail on Monday (13 March) by a district court.
Fajar Ashraf Fajar Ali, 25, had earlier pleaded guilty to two counts of animal abuse.
The stocky man was emotionless when District Judge May Mesenas sentenced him to the prison term.

When Joshua Robinson’s apartment was raided, officers seized 5,902 obscene films, including 321 films of child pornography. The haul is believed to be the largest collection of child pornography seized from an individual in S'pore.
Robinson, 39, pleaded guilty to 9 charges: 3 for sexually assaulting the girls, 5 for making and possessing obscene films and one for showing an obscene film to a 6-year-old girl. Another 20 charges, including 4 more for sexual assault, were taken into consideration during sentencing.

A 37-yr-old mother of five was jailed for 4 months yesterday for stealing 80 tins of milk powder from supermarkets in the western part of Singapore.
Housewife Noris Ithnin pleaded guilty to 6 charges. 10 others were taken into consideration.
Court documents showed she committed the offences over about 1 1/2 years, including twice while out on bail. The value of the stolen milk powder was about $5,676.

A Singaporean couple have been jailed for starving their domestic worker from the Philippines, in a case that has shocked the city-state.
The woman lost 20kg (44 lbs) - about 40% of her body weight - while working for them, and was given only bread and instant noodles to eat. Her employers received jail sentences of three weeks and three months.
Many Singaporeans hire live-in helpers from neighbouring countries, and abuse cases are not uncommon.

5 CHC Leaders begin jail terms
Looking sombre, Kong, 52, was the first to turn up among the 5 church leaders due to start their sentences yesterday after they were convicted of misappropriating millions in church funds. At about 8.30am, he told reporters: "I am totally at peace & I am grateful to God for this. I have nothing more to say, just let me thank my friends."

Yang, 42, was convicted in September last year for 2 offences of criminal breach of trust & sentenced to 6 years in jail. He had misappropriated the money from Madam Chung Khin Chun, now 90, in 2010 & 2012.
On Friday (March 3), the High Court extended the jail term to 9 years on grounds that the initial sentence imposed by the State Courts on the Chinese national was manifestly inadequate.

Addressing the man, Tay Wee Kiat, 39, just before delivering the sentence, District Judge Shaiffudin Saruwan said: "It is clear that you are the main perpetrator."
He then sentenced the former regional IT manager to 2 years & 4 months in jail after convicting him of all 12 charges.

Tan Jun Rong pleaded guilty to one charge of insulting the modesty of the victim, who was shopping at Orchard Road when the incident occurred.

To spite his wife over their marital problems, a 44-yr-old man hid a video recording device in a toilet at their home, so that he could secretly film 2 11-yr-old twin girls she was tutoring.
Even when the device was discovered and he was confronted with it, the man still tried to lie that it was just a thumb drive, instead of a video recording device.
It was only when his wife refused to let him see their children that he came clean to the police.

An engineer was jailed eight weeks on Monday (15 May) for taking upskirt videos of three women at an NTUC Fairprice supermarket in Toa Payoh HDB Hub.
Darren Ng Jun Yang, 26, pleaded guilty to three charges of insulting the modesty of the women. Four other similar charges were taken into consideration.
Investigations revealed that Ng committed the acts on the evening on 14 July 2015 while shopping in the supermarket. When he was at the poultry section, Ng saw a woman wearing a white top and floral skirt and it was then that he thought of taking an upskirt video of her.

According to court documents, the prosecution said this was "one of the worst cases of sexual penetration of a minor" it had seen, and that Wong deserved a deterrent sentence of more than 4 years' imprisonment.

A Transgender, who is biologically female but lives as a man, was yesterday sentenced to 10 years in jail for the sexual abuse of a teenage girl, who was then 13. She was initially cleared by a lower court which had ruled that a woman could not be convicted of sexual penetration of a minor.
The sentence came after a decision by the Court of Appeal on Sep 28 that a woman can just be as guilty as a man for the crime & reversed the acquittal.
In sentencing Zunika Ahmad, 40, the Court of Appeal took into account as aggravating factors the number of offences & that she had abused her position of trust.

28 YEAR-OLD MAID JAILED FOR RAPING 14 YEAR-OLD BOY POSITIVE FOR STD
In a shocking twist to an already sensational case, it was revealed in court that the maid who raped the 14 year-old boy, her employer's son, had tested positive for Chlamydia trachomatis, a sexually transmitted disease (STD). The boy has not tested positive for the STD yet, but prosecutors argued that the child could have escaped infection by sheer luck and this should not lighten the burden of guilt on the accused.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Nicholas Lai urged the court to slap at least 10 months jail on the month, citing aggravating factor such as the maid's STD infection, her breach of trust and the unprotected nature of the intercourse. The maid was eventually sentenced to 10 months jail, but will have her sentence dated back to 7th September. She could have been jailed for up to 10 years and fined for having sex with a person under 16 years old.
An Indonesian domestic worker has been jailed 10 months for having sex with a 14 year-old boy, who is the son of her employer and exactly half her age.

Maid who buried her newborn jailed 12 weeks
A domestic worker was today (Jan 28) jailed 12 weeks by a district court for burying her newborn baby in the backyard of her employer’s home. It is not clear if the baby was alive at the time of the birth.
In pressing for a custodial sentence, Deputy Public Prosecutor Michelle Lu said that it was possible that the baby’s life could have been saved if there was early medical intervention.

Man gets 12 years’ jail, 9 strokes of cane for raping a minor
A 40-yr-old former crane operator was sentenced to 12 yrs’ jail and nine strokes of the cane on Wednesday (April 13) for raping a minor — more than 20 yrs younger than him — days after they met through a mobile phone messaging application.
Lee Seow Peng, who is married, first met his victim on May 26, 2012 and asked her to be his girlfriend the following day. The victim cannot be named due to a court order to protect her identity.
2 days later, Lee suggested that they meet up. He picked her up near her school, drove her to a public carpark at the Chinese Garden, and had sexual intercourse with her at the back of the vehicle.

Underage-sex offender has jail term upped to 10 months
A 23-yr-old production worker who pressured a secondary schoolgirl he met online into having sex with him had his original jail term of four months increased to 10 months yesterday after the prosecution appealed to the High Court.
Qiu Shuihua had been due to be released on Thursday. But Judge of Appeal Chao Hick Tin agreed with the prosecution that the district judge who sentenced him last year was wrong to find that there was a genuine romantic relationship between Qiu and the 14-yr-old girl.
Justice Chao said that while the girl had expressed affection for Qiu, he had used "emotional blackmail" to get her to have sex with him.

An 18-yr-old man who twice had sex with his underaged girlfriend, and also got her pregnant, was on Monday sentenced to 15 months' probation.

A 32-yr-old female S'porean teacher was sentenced to a year in jail on Monday for having sex with a 15-yr-old boy in her school, local media reported.
The teacher, who was married with two children, started a relationship with the student last year after she started counselling him, the Straits Times daily reported on its website. Their names were withheld to protect the minor's identity.

He crafted a fake identity of a man who suffered from erectile dysfunction to gain the 13-yr-old's sympathy & got her to send the nude photographs and videos to him in 2012 and 2013.
His WhatsApp messages to her ran into more than 400 pages over 2 years.

A 49-yr-old man who molested several young children over the span of 12 years received 11½ years of jail & 15 strokes of the cane on Friday (Aug 12).
Tahir Hassan, previously a sorter & packer at a supermarket, would randomly visit housing estates to sell items such as massage lotion & perfume. While doing so, he would target young children at void decks & playgrounds, whom he would molest. In 2005, he started selling light sticks to children and would go into their homes when their parents were out.
He was found guilty of 6 charges involving outrage of modesty and, in one case, sexual penetration. 6 other charges were taken into consideration in sentencing.

A driver who repeatedly molested his stepdaughter over a 3-yr period was sentenced to 2 years in jail and 6 strokes of the cane yesterday.
The abuses began in 2011, the year that the victim, then 12, began living with him and her mother. He molested her in their Housing Board flat near Chinatown on five occasions when his wife was not at home, and asked her to perform an indecent act on him on another occasion.
Another time, he insulted her modesty. He also molested her at an open-air carpark in the neighborhood after they had bought dinner together, and at a lift lobby in their block.

A serial molester who touched a 10-yr-old boy living near him was jailed for a year and 8 months on Thursday.
Teo Koon Tian approached the youngster as he played with his mobile phone at a void deck table and told him he was "cute and handsome", then twice touched him on the cheeks.

He also pleaded guilty to being drunk until he jeopardised the order and discipline required on board a plane, said The Straits Times Online.

A self-professed medical practitioner, who was convicted of 14 charges of sexually assaulting a woman under the pretext of providing fertility treatment, was sentenced to 7 years' jail on Thursday.
After a 13-day trial Koh Nai Hock, 64, was found guilty of sexually penetrating a businesswoman, then 40, on 7 occasions at hotel rooms between Nov 1 and Dec 25, 2010.
Koh, represented by Mr Edmond Pereira, is appealing against conviction and sentence.

A security guard who sexually assaulted his 12-yr-old daughter over a period of around 10 months and threatened to kill his estranged wife was sentenced to jail & caning yesterday.
The 43-yr-old, who cannot be named so as not to identify his victim, had pleaded guilty to 2 charges each of molestation and criminal intimidation. Two other charges were taken into consideration.

A foreign worker who went to a flat to install a fibre optic cable earlier this year molested a 12-year old girl there.
On Friday he was sentenced to nine months' jail. A district court heard that Chellamuthu Gajendran, 36 went to the flat at about 3pm on March 3 to carry out the installation works.
The girl, a primary school student, was in the flat with her younger brother & she was reading a book in the living room.

A repeat offender who molested two women at a block of flats in Henderson Crescent was jailed for 20 months on Friday (Nov 20).
Muhammad Surya Mohd Hatta, 23, pleaded guilty to grabbing a 29-yr-old woman's buttocks along the common corridor near the lift lobby at 7:39pm on Oct 20 and to a groping another woman, also 29,on the ground floor a minute later.
A district court heard that he had followed the first woman from Redhill MRT station to the lift lobby of the block. Both got into the lift and they alighted at the third floor.

An Indian-origin man in Singapore, who molested a girl inside a taxi, was Friday sentenced to jail for four weeks, media reported.
Samir Singh Aulakh, 34, a hotel call operator, pleaded guilty to molesting the victim when they were inside the taxi travelling from Kampong Bahru Road to Lower Delta Road at 7.45 am Aug 30, 2013, the Straits Times reported.
A medical report stated that the victim, 15, a secondary school student, was so traumatised by the incident that she is afraid of big-sized men and tries to avoid them.

Indian national, Jayaraman Kannan, was today sentenced to a 4-month jail sentence by the courts for using criminal force to outrage the modesty of a girl on a MRT train at about 9am on Aug 18 last year.
34-year-old Jayaraman, who is a bio-technologist working in Singapore, pleaded guilty to pressing his exposed private parts against a 19-year-old girl while in the train which was travelling from Choa Chu Kang to Bukit Gombak.
He quickly zipped up his pants when the girl turned around. She reportedly gave him a slap and later informed SMRT staff when she reached the Bukit Gombak MRT station.

A District Court heard that Teng, a Malaysian, rented a room in a Pasir Ris flat. He stayed there with the unit's owners, a married couple, and a 30-yr-old female tenant. The latter had a habit of sleeping unclothed and would usually lock her room door, the court heard.

A Bangladeshi national filmed himself having sex with a married Singaporean woman, then threatened to send the explicit video clip to her friends and family.
On Tuesday (May 24), the 42-year-old man was sentenced to five months' jail after admitting to threatening the woman, aged 38, between March 27 and April 4 this year. He was initially scheduled to go for trial but changed his mind and pleaded guilty on Monday (May 23). Neither he nor the complainant can be named due to a gag order.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Ryan David Lim said the pair were in an intermittent relationship from around 2007 to 2013. They broke up in 2014 and he returned to Bangladesh.

A graduate was sentenced to 20 weeks’ jail for taking upskirt videos of young girls. Singapore Permanent Resident (PR) Wong Jia Wei, from Butterworth Malaysia, was arrested when a shopper reported him for taking a video of the underwear of an 8-year-old girl in a shopping mall in April 2015.
The police also found at least 18 videos in his handphone of upskirt videos of young girls aged between 6 and 10 years old. According to investigations revealed in the court hearing, the pedophile has been doing so since 2012.
Deputy Public Prosecutor said: “Wong revealed that he had taken numerous upskirt videos of young Chinese girls between six and 10 years of age when he chanced upon them sitting in a manner that inadvertently exposed their panties… he has been taking upskirt videos since 2012.”

Ryan Er Wei Kiat would give one to 4 stars for his victims, with 4 being the prettiest, and catalogued the videos in folders on his computer. He also tried to capture the faces of his victims in his videos.
He managed to escape after he was caught red-handed at an MRT station in 2015 but was tracked down by police a month later.

In sentencing Lim Kwang Yeow, District Judge Christopher Goh said that the sheer number of offences over a short period of time - between Jun 22 and Aug 2 in 2011 - made a stiff sentence appropriate.

Yang, who was unaccompanied, surrendered himself at the State Courts at about 10:15am.
The 27-yr-old, who started the now-defunct TRS with his wife Ai Takagi, 23, was sentenced to 8 months in jail last Tuesday for deliberately sowing discord between S'poreans & foreigners through a series of online articles.

15 months after he was given a prison sentence for intending to wound religious feelings, teenage blogger Amos Yee on Thursday (Sep 29) was again given a jail term for the same crime.
The 17-yr-old was sentenced to six weeks' jail and a $2,000 fine in total for eight charges - two for failing to turn up at a police station and six for intending to wound the feelings of Muslims and/or Christians.
Principal District Judge Ong Hian Sun said Yee is not lacking in his mental capacity to make rational choices in the way he conducts himself, adding that he has the capability to do good or harm with what he does and says.

Singapore official jailed in pineapple, wine case: Two senior government officials were imprisoned on Thursday in separate corruption scandals that have dented Singapore’s reputation as one of the world’s least corrupt countries.
Lim Cheng Hoe, 61, former Ministry of Foreign Affairs head of protocol, received a 15 months jail sentence for inflating expenses for pineapple tarts and wine he bought as gifts for dignitaries, said reports. Forty-year-old Edwin Yeo Seow Hiong an assistant director of the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau, received a ten year prison sentence for misappropriating Sg$1.76 million (US$1.4 million) worth of government funds.
Both men had pleaded guilty earlier, according to reports.

Former CPIB assistant director jailed 10 years
Former assistant director of the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB), Edwin Yeo Seow Hiong, has been sentenced to 10 yrs in jail for misappropriating more than S$1.75 million and committing forgery.
The judge on Thursday noted that only a small fraction of the funds -- S$65,000 -- that were misappropriated had been recovered.
Yeo, who worked at the CPIB for 15 years, had committed the offences between 2009 and 2012.

Ng Boon Gay: 19 months since probe started 'My darkest time'
Now that this chapter has drawn to a close, I can focus on moving forward with my life, said former Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) chief Ng Boon Gay in a statement through his lawyers on Tuesday.
The statement came after the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) said the prosecution is not appealing against the acquittal of Mr Ng.

A former higher Customs officer who helped 4 Indian nationals fraudulently claim almost $500,000 in goods and services tax (GST) via the electronic tourist refund scheme was jailed for 5 years on Thursday for tax evasion and corruption.
In sentencing Mohamed Yusof Abdul Rahman, 67, District Judge Lim Tse Haw felt that his overall culpability was higher than any of the accomplices, given the aggravating factors.
"Further, there is a need to impose a deterrent sentence in order to make it clear to all public servants that the courts will come down very hard on those who betray the public trust that is reposed in them to the detriment of the State and allow themselves to be corrupted in the process," he said.

A 40-yr-old man who ran nine pubs and one of the Republic’s largest vice syndicates was sentenced to 35 months’ jail and fined S$98,000 today (Oct 13).
Ang Boon Seng pleaded guilty to 43 charges, another 189 charges were taken into consideration. District Judge Lim Keng Yeow also imposed a S$3,600 disgorgement payment on Ang.
The State Courts heard that between June 2009 and August last year, Ang opened a total of 9 pubs and made a total profit of at least S$1.08 million over the course of his business.

Man jailed 5 months for exposing himself on MRT train
Samyapal Muthusamy said he committed the act, which happened between 11.50pm on Jul 30 and 12:08am on Jul 31, because he found the victim attractive.
He had been sitting next to the victim, a 28-yr-old woman, on the MRT train. The woman was asleep, but awoke abruptly as she felt Samyapal learning against her shoulder.
After he woke the victim up, Samyapal moved to seat himself directly across from the victim, facing her. He then unzipped his pants, exposed his penis and started to fondle himself while looking at the victim. The woman immediately recorded his act on her handphone.

For their involvement in a fake degree scam, at least 18 foreign workers from China were sentenced earlier this week to jail in Singapore for four weeks each.
The workers had been found by a local court to have provided forged certificates to obtain work passes to work for T Y Enterprise and Sun Blues Cleaning Maintenance.
A spokesman for the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) said that while another 10 workers from China will be charged with similar offences on Thursday, another nine are being repatriated after being served with warning letters “for providing false information to MOM’s employment inspectors”.

The 2 Germans who trespassed into Bishan Depot last November and vandalised an SMRT train have been sentenced to 9 months’ jail and 3 strokes’ caning each.
Andreas Von Knorres, 22, and Elton Hinz, 21, were found guilty of vandalising the train in the wee hours of the morning on Nov 8 last year. They were also convicted of unauthorised entry to the depot on Nov 7 and Nov 8 last year.
The duo were reportedly arrested at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport on Nov 14 last year, with the help of Malaysian police, and have been in remand in Singapore since Nov 22.

After arguing with his girlfriend for nearly three hours, Lee Boon Seng charged at her with a kitchen knife, pushed her against a wall and placed the weapon on her neck.
In the incident on Sept 14 last year. the 54-year-old hawker also tried to strangle Ms Tham Feng Jian, 55, with his hands, punched her in the head, and smashed her head against the wall.

Under pressure from her estranged husband for money, a clinic employee stole almost 500 litres of codeine-based cough syrup for him to resell illegally.
Chen Ruzhen handed over a total of 482.6 litres of Dhasedyl syrup to Yam Bin Kwee on 12 occasions in 2011 and 2012, receiving between $400 and $600 in return each time.
The 40-yr-old was jailed for 16 weeks yesterday for dishonestly misappropriating the syrup, worth $4,593.93, and selling it to Yam to "help him in his business".

4 men fined, jailed for false GST tourist refund claims
They would pay for jewellery receipts from bona fide shoppers and obtain electronic tourist refund scheme (eTRS) tickets from the retailers. After which, they would present the ticket and jewellery - or gold-plated jewellery which did not match the goods description on the tickets — to a Customs officer at the airport, whom they had bribed to approve their false Goods and Services Tax (GST) refund claims.
The 4 Indian nationals would then head to the Central Refund Counter to receive their GST refunds in cash — spending a part of the money on duty-free items before departing to India.
Between September 2012 and January this year, the four men racked up fraudulent claims of about S$570,000 in GST refunds.

4 Indians were today sentenced to jail terms up to 48 months and fined after being convicted of fraudulent Goods and Services Tax refund claims, corruption and money laundering.
The 4 men - Sundar Panneer Selvam, Baskaran Uthirapathy, Pounraj Natarajan and Gobi Raman - had paid for receipts from bona-fide shoppers who had purchased jewellery and obtained electronic tourist refund scheme (eTRS) tickets from jewellery retailers, according to media report.
The men then presented the eTRS tickets and jewellery not purchased by them to Mohamed Yusof Bin Abdul Rahman, a customs officer on duty at the inspection counter in the airport.

7 Indians are among 25 foreign employees jailed between four and 12 weeks for submitting forged academic certificates to obtain work passes in this city-state.
Among the foreign 25 employees, 16 are from Myanmar, and two from the Philippines, the Today Online reported Saturday. Twenty-one of them are men and four are women.
