Another waste management plant goes up in colossal flames, this time in Tanjong Kling

It’s barely been a month since the infernal monstrosity that was the blaze at a Tuas waste management plant, but another fire sought to repeat that event, this time in Tanjong Kling at Jurong.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) was alerted to the fire at approximately 12.15pm and updated its Facebook page with a warning to stay away from the area. A total of three fire engines, three Red Rhinos, two firebikes, one ambulance, two Unmanned fighting Machines, and seven support vehicles were deployed to the scene.

As of SCDF’s latest update, the flames have been extinguished successfully within two hours of its arrival, and the resulting carnage fortunately did not escalate to the level of the blaze in Tuas last month. Damping down—  a term to describe dampening burnt surfaces to prevent a rekindling of the fire — is currently still in progress. No injuries were reported.

An electrical supplies company suffered a double blow when the High Court ruled it was liable for the fire that caused $1.6 million worth of damage to its neighbour & its insurers were not obliged to underwrite its payout.

The court found the blaze started on the premises of Grace Electrical Engineering in Kallang Way in the early hours of Sep 6, 2012 - contrary to its expert's claims.

" All in all,the environmental conditions and circumstances under which the fire originated & spread created an inference of negligence on the part of (Grace), its servant or agent, and (Grace) had not shown it was not negligent," said Justice Belinda Ang, in judgment grounds released last Friday.

A SINGAPORE Airlines (SIA) flight enroute to Milan from Singapore this morning caught fire after being forced to make an emergency return to Changi Airport. All passengers are unharmed.

According to a statement by SIA, flight SQ368 took off at around 02.05am but had to turn back after pilots detected an engine warning. The Boeing 777-300ER safely landed at about 06.50am but its right wing went ablaze shortly after with all 222 passengers and 19 crew still onboard.

Airport emergency services were activated and put out the flames caused by a fuel leak. Passengers then disembarked via stairs with no one injured. SIA said that passengers will be transferred to another aircraft which is expected to depart for Milan on the same day.
