When Eating Too Much Yogurt Is Bad For You

We’ve heard so many good things about yogurt – when it’s non-fat and eaten plain, without additional toppings like chocolate rice pops or canned fruit, of course. That it helps your digestive system move along better, that it’s rich in bone-and-teeth-building calcium and that it’s generally good for your immunity system, thanks to the sheer amount of probiotics that this fermented dairy product contains.

But too much of a good thing can make it bad for you too. How so?

For one, some studies have found that yogurt is high in animal protein and also in galactose which are said to increase the risk of certain cancers, such as ovarian cancer. Also, depending on the type of yogurt you eat every day, it can be high in unhealthy saturated fat, artificial sugar (avoid the ones that are anything but white) and calories. A good yardstick: slurp up no more than three small cups of yogurt in a day.
