She is just 21

Beauty pageants might not be as widely broadcast as it once was, but they are still going strong.

One of the upcoming pageants is Miss International 2019. The 59th Miss International pageant is a Japanese-based international beauty pageant organised by The International Culture Association and will be held on Nov. 15.

In the run-up to the event, Malaysian media has been hyping up their contestant, Charmaine Chew, quite a bit.

Malaysians impressed by the beauty queen representing them at an international pageant next month have been throwing a lot of shade Miss Singapore’s way.

While many have praised Miss International Malaysia Charmaine Chew, who will compete in Tokyo next month, they haven’t hesitated to savage her Singaporean counterpart, 21-year-old Charlotte Chia, who won the title in July.

Malaysians have been praising Chew, 22 of Kedah state, for her good looks since she was crowned Tuesday, likening her beauty to that of South Korean celebrities, with many expressing confidence Malaysia’s got a shot at going far this year.

Netizens from Singapore, Malaysia criticize Miss Singapore International contestant

Being in a beauty pageant, beauty queens will be judged based on their appearance amongst other things. Over the weekend, some Singaporean netizens were not too happy about their homegrown contestant for Miss International.

Charlotte Lucille Chia is a 21-year-old Singaporean model who studied at the University of Sydney. She was crowned Miss Singapore International last July 13 and will be vying for the title of Miss International this year in Tokyo.

The Facebook page All Singapore Stuff shared a photo showing the Southeast Asian candidates. The photo had the caption “Team ASEAN for Miss International 2019. Good luck to our Singapore representative! #PrideofSG”

Ms Charlotte Chia is not losing sleep over the ugly talk about her.

Netizens, including many from Malaysia, have posted some pretty nasty remarks about the 21-year-old model who bagged the Miss Singapore International crown in July.

Ms Chia, who will represent the country in the Miss International pageant in Tokyo in November, has been compared with Ms Charmaine Chew, her Malaysian rival.

Charlotte Chia crowned Miss Singapore International 2019

At the event of Singapore Women’s Association Charity Gala dinner 2019 held at Grand Copthorne Waterfront Hotel, Charlotte Chia was crowned Miss Singapore International 2019 and will now represent Singapore in Miss International 2019. She succeeds and was crowned by Miss Singapore International 2018 Eileen Feng.

Nine contestants competed at the contest to win the right to represent Singapore in Miss International 2019.

Along with her, at the event, Naomi Huth was crowned Miss Supranational Singapore 2019 and will go on to represent Singapore in Miss Supranational 2019.
