The Enigmatic Elegance of Lawrence Wong's wife, Loo Tze Lui at President Tharman's Inauguration

Loo Tze Lui, the Vice President of Singapore's Young Men's Christian Association (YMCA), and the wife of Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Lawrence Wong, made a rare public appearance at the inauguration ceremony. Clad in a sleek black cheongsam, she exuded an aura of grace and poise, catching the attention of many.

TikTok, as always, had a field day with her moments on screen. Comments poured in, ranging from admiration for her elegance to playful banter. Some even humorously claimed that there were "two winners" that day at Tharman's inauguration.

Interestingly, Lawrence Wong himself is no stranger to TikTok, where he also managed to turn heads with his content. But let's not be distracted by social media buzz alone. Loo Tze Lui's professional background is equally impressive. She currently runs a single-family office, where she manages a diverse portfolio, oversees real estate assets, and has over 25 years of experience in finance and investments.

President Tharman Shanmugaratnam was sworn in as the ninth President of Singapore at his inauguration ceremony on Sep. 14.

While congratulations for the newly minted president were in order, many people seemed enraptured by an attendee who makes rare appearances on social media. Namely, Loo Tze Lui, the vice president of Singapore’s Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA).

Also the wife of Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Lawrence Wong. Although Loo's cameos on the ceremony's livestream were sparse and fleeting, it didn't stop one of her fans from stitching together a TikTok video of her moments on screen.

DPM Lawrence Wong and his wife, and another new TikTok account: What politicians are up to this week

The Straits Times looks at what politicians, and the politically related, are up to in this weekly series. In this edition, Deputy Prime Minister Lawrence Wong's wife makes a "guest" appearance in some social media posts, as does former Workers' Party chief Low Thia Khiang. Look out for the latest edition of the series every Friday and check out past ones here.

When Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Lawrence Wong was chosen by his fourth-generation People's Action Party colleagues as their leader in April this year, curiosity peaked about him and his personal life. And one of the things people were interested about: just who his wife is. From April 10 to 16, the search terms "Lawrence Wong and wife" reached its peak popularity, based on Google Trends.

But most people were unlikely to have found many pictures of Ms Loo Tze Lui, who has mostly kept out of the spotlight. This week, though, she made a guest appearance as Mr Wong and Senior Minister Teo Chee Hean hosted a special guest, Brunei Crown Prince Al-Muhtadee Billah, during his visit to Singapore for the 8th Singapore-Brunei Young Leaders' Programme.
