Miss World 2015


The 65th edition of Miss World kicks off on November 21, with the arrival of the first contestants in Sanya, The People's Republic of China, Culminating with the Grand Final on Saturday 19 December at the Beauty Crown Grand Theatre, Sanya.

Hailing from the beautiful and vibrant Barcelona, Mireia, a pharmacy student, aspires to further her studies with Nutrition, before setting up her own business to find alternative health solutions to orthodox medicines. Also a skilled pianist, she studied up to grade 8 in Musical Language, Harmony and Piano at the Conservatory of the Lyceum of Barcelona, and in her spare time she likes to run, to read and to go skiing in the winter.

The dazzling 3-hour long finale, held at the Beauty Crown Grand Tree Hotel in Sanya, featured live performances by Julian Believe, The Wholls, Miss World 2012 Wenxia Yu, and was hosted by Tim Vincent, Angela Chow, and Miss World 2013 Megan Young.

Spain's Mireia Lalaguna Royo wins the crown

The grand finale of Miss World 2015 has begun at the Beauty Crown Hote in Sanya, China. The event is dazzling, to say the least. Show hosts Tim Vincent, Megan Young and Angela Chow have greeted the audience.

The panel of judges include Julia Morley, the President of Miss World; Ken Warwick, an Emmy award winning Hollywood producer; music conductor Mike Dixon; the head of Miss World, hair and beauty expert Andrew Minarik; stage director Donna Walsh;  Miss World 1988 Linda Pétursdóttir (Iceland), Miss World 2001 Agbani Darego (Nigeria), Miss World 2002 Azra Akin (Turkey), Miss World 2007 Zhang Zilin (China) and Miss World 2008 Ksenia Sukhinova (Russia).

Miss Spain has been announced as the winner of this year's Miss World competition

Mireia Lalaguna Royo was announced as the winner of the competition for 2015 this afternoon. She was handed the crown by last year's winner Rolene Strauss of South Africa.

Miss Russia, Sofia Nikitchuk, was named first runner up while Miss Indonesia, Maria Harfanti, was second runner up

Her larger-than-life national costume for Miss Universe earned her compliments during a showcase held after the pageant's preliminary round on Wednesday night, ahead of the finals on Sunday night in Las Vegas.

Featuring a batik cheongsam top attached to a red sequinned skirt, a towering headdress and a 3m-wide foam orchid harness created by local designer Frederick Lee, the outfit was right at home among other similarly elaborate ensembles. Miss Universe Singapore Lisa Marie White told The New Paper yesterday over the phone from Las Vegas: "I thought my national costume was huge until I saw all these other OTT (over-the-top) outfits that the others wore.

It was so crazy, it felt like we were part of an amazing circus."
