Singapore F1 Grand Prix 2014

SIA unveils winner's trophy for F1 Singapore Grand Prix
Singapore Airlines unveiled the winner's trophy for the 2014 Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix at a ceremony held in Singapore today

The unveiling of the trophy marks Singapore Airlines' inaugural year as Title Sponsor of the 2014 Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix. Measuring 52cm in height and 18.5cm in width, the 5kg trophy was custom-designed by SIA's creative agency, TBWA, and hand-crafted by Singapore jewellery brand, RISIS.

Inspired by the iconic Singapore Airlines logo, the trophy embodies the common attributes between the world's most awarded airline and the world's most celebrated motorsport: innovation, technology and precision.

The three gold stripes, plated in 24-karat gold, represent power, direction and speed, while the clean curved lines, reminiscent of the gentle curves of a modern F1 car, imbue a touch of elegance, finesse and beauty to the 3D sculpture

While it is anybody’s guess who will win next month’s Formula 1 Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix, one thing is certain: The winner will show off a brand new trophy.

Modelled after SIA’s logo, the 52cm-tall trophy was unveiled yesterday at the Marina Bay Sands boutique of Singapore jewellery brand RISIS, who also hand-crafted the trophy.

In April, SIA replaced telco SingTel as the new title sponsor of the Singapore Grand Prix, the only full night race on the F1 world championship calendar, on a two-year deal.

2014 Formula 1 Singapore Airlines Singapore Grand Prix - The women of Formula One

Too fast, too furious, too sexy... Formula One fever is more than just the cars, it's also about the women who add a touch glamour and a lot of eye candy to the mix. We pick some of the best lookers and hope to see them in the flesh this weekend.

JESSICA MICHIBATA - Jenson Button’s girlfriend, Japanese-Argentine model Jessica Michibata, is simply drop-dead gorgeous. The model and keen triathlete is said to have met the F1 driver in a Tokyo bar in 2008. Button showed his love for her by dedicating his F1 victory in Brazil to Michibata on live TV in 2009. In the photo above, she's celebrating with Button after he won the Belgian F1 Grand Prix on 2 September 2012. We can’t think of a better inspiration for a F1 driver to driver faster and better.

TAMARA ECCLESTONE - Tamara is Formula 1 boss Bernie Ecclestone’s daughter who has appeared on countless magazines and even had her own reality TV show. The heiress was also a sports presenter during the F1 season in 2009 for an Italian TV station. In February 2013, she announced her engagement to former Pacific Continental senior broker Jay Rutland one month after they met. They married on the French Riviera in June 2013 in a wedding reported to have cost £7million. (S$13 million)

MICHELLE YEOH – The ex-Bond girl is married to FIA president Jean Todt. She’s also the ambassador of the FIA Foundation for the Automobile and Society which champions road traffic safety. Yeoh can always be counted on to bring a touch of elegance and class to anything she backs.
